A prolific sketcher and painter as a small boy, Taylor started selling his own paintings in his schooldays. When he left art college, he continued to paint in his spare time while working as a picture restorer. The 13 years in this profession brought him into contact with many of the works of the great masters, offering him insight into different techniques and radically influencing his own. When he teamed up with The Military Gallery in the mid-seventies his fame really began to spread.  He is recognized today by many as the world's leading aviation artist and international demand for his original canvases and his limited edition prints is unsurpassed. His work has been featured many times as the subject of television programs, newspaper and magazine articles and his highly successful one-man exhibition in London in 1983 was covered by Granada TV and many of the U.K.'s leading national newspapers. In 1987 his one-man exhibition at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. was seen by 10 million visitors and has been quoted as the most successful aviation art exhibition ever staged.  Today the genius of Robert Taylor is recognized all over the world, and his art is the benchmark by which all others in this established field set their standards.  Robert Taylor is widely regarded as the world's foremost aviation artist and enjoys a popularity rare amongst living painters. His sweeping panoramic style and clarity attracts many devotees including the Royal Family, legendary pilots and aircrews, aviation and naval museums and aviation enthusiasts throughout the world.
