"Born in Kaplan, Louisiana, and of French descent, Mary Vincent Bertrand calls upon her early background and familiarity with Acadian scenery to depict the bayous, moss-covered oaks and wild flowers which have become part of her own inimitable impressionistic style of painting. She captures nature in an individual, hazy fashion giving her work the characteristic touch she has developed.
Mary entered the art field after working as a draftsman in the oil industry. She has studied under nationally known artist as Edgar Whitney of New York, Robert E. Wood of California, Henry Wo Yue Kee of Hong Kong, Bud Shakleford of California and John Pellew of Connecticut. In addition, she studied art at Tulane University, the John McCrady Art School and Delgado Jr. College in New Orleans.
A member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society, Mary has several one-man shows and is represented in local and out of state galleries and in many private collections and museums. Her work is included in the Fine Arts Museum of the South in Mobile, Alabama and is listed in the New Orleans Public Library through the Society of North American Artists, in the Fine Arts Registry. Awards for her work have been numerous and she has received recognition in more than 200 juried shows. Some of her work has been reproduced by Felix Rosenstiel's Widow and Sons, Ltd. of London, England to be marketed in Europe and in the U.S.
Mary has conducted children's art classes, given demonstrations and talks on creative art, and served as a judge for many art shows. She is married and the mother of two children. "
