"In essence, I suppose one could say that art is my life and life is my art." Roger Cruwys was raised in upstate New York and as a child developed an early interest in nature and the outdoors. He received degrees from Syracuse University and the University of California in landscape and architecture/urban design, and enjoyed a successful career in that field. In 1978, however, he pursued his dream of becoming a wildlife and sporting artist. Since then, Roger's spectacular wildlife paintings, sporting dog portraits and angling art have been exhibited in major galleries throughout the United States. His works have also appeared in many national sporting publications, including Fly Fisherman, Field and Stream and Gray's Sporting Journal. Over the years he has won various conservation stamp competitions, including the 1984 North Dakota Salmon/Trout Stamp, 1987 Montana Duck Stamp, 1989 Tennessee Duck Stamp, 1989 Montana Duck Stamp, 1989 North Carolina Sportsman's Stamp, 1990 Oregon Waterfowl Stamp, 1990 North Dakota Duck Stamp, 1992 Illinois Pheasant Stamp, 1993 Pennsylvania Trout Stamps and 1994 Montana Duck Stamp.
